Joanne Wood thinks Taila Santos’ lack of competition will be her downfall

UFC flyweight Joan Wood thinks Taila Santos’ lack of competition will be her downfall in UFC Vegas 43.

UFC flyweight, Joan Wood, does not connect to the hype surrounding her UFC rival, Taila Santos, ahead of their top contenders.

Wood, a key element in the UFC flyweight title picture since joining the promotion in 2014, is looking to win the title with a win over Santos. It follows a controversial loss in a split decision to Lauren Murphy in UFC 263, a fight in which many believed she was robbed of the decision.

Wood was originally scheduled to face flyweight contender Alexa Grasso at UFC Vegas 43, but Grasso retired only a month after the fight. Santos will intervene now and fight Wood at short notice in the toughest test of her career.

During which UFC Vegas 43rd pre-fight press conference, Wood explained why Santos can fight against it based on its low level of competition.

“I respect her. She looks great and her record is great, but I looked at it in more detail and she did not fight any contenders,” Wood said. “All the women she fought in Brazil did not have big records. She did not fight against the competition I faced.

“She just fought Brooksan [Modafferi] And tried to wrestle all the time. But, I’m going to make it fun and I’ll try to make it an exciting battle. “

Joan Wood can achieve the next title in flyweight with a win

Despite being at the top tier of the UFC flyweight division for most of her career, Wood has yet to win a flyweight title. She has lost two of her last three tackles, with a unanimous win over Jessica A. was her only win during that segment.

Wood will face a tough test at Santos, who have won three straight games over Roxanne Modfrey, Gillian Robertson and Molly McCann. She signed with the UFC after a successful run Dana White’s Contest Series: Brazil In 2018.

Wood has had bad luck in the lottery in her recent fights, but she will try to get back on track against Santos at UFC Vegas 43. Her push-up style may test Santos in ways she has yet to be tested in her young career.

UFC Vegas 43 takes place on Saturday, November 20, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, New York. Follow FanSided MMA, which is on the site, for all your news and exiles.
