UFC Fight Night 198: “Vieira vs Tate” Live Play-By-Play & Results

The ultimate fighting championship remains today at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC Fight Night 198: “Vieira vs. Tate.” Top of the event was a weightlifting battle for women between the deadly contestant “Phenomenon” Vieira and former UFC champion Maisha “Cupcake” Tate.

In the common trait in the Tober weight, “Maverick” Michael Cheese met the invincible potential Sean Brady. Elsewhere on the main card, Joan “JoJo” Wood faced off against the once-prominent Brazilian, Taila Santos, in a flyweight weight game for women. MMARising.com has a live game-by-game for the card.

Killer “Phenomenon” Vieira against Maya “Cupcake” Tate

Round 1:
Vieira hit first with a right-left combination and she landed more single-handed hands while Tate kept his distance. Vieira hit and she landed in another right-left combination. Tate finally scored with a right hook, but she ate four punches in return for her efforts. With 90 seconds to go, Tate hit her way to the clinch, but Vieira quickly released and she supported Tate with a hook and a top cut. Tate enlisted once again and Vieira supported her with a top cut and a left hook. Vieira went out for a late download, but Tate stretched out and defended himself until the bell rang. Closed round because of Tate’s late rally. Still 10-9 Vieira.

Round 2:
A second round started with Vieira landing a combination and she repulsed Tate after absorbing a kick attempt in the head. A large right hand landed for Tate Vieira and spun her against a foot kick. Vieira landed a combination, but Tate responded with a forward kick forward and she pressed forward with her fists. Vieira stunned her with a left hook and Tate looked down at the download. Vieira pulled her over her and landed stabs as Tate’s face flushed. Vieira slammed and she answered Tate’s right hand with a stronger hand than her own. Another close round. 10-9 Vieira.

Round 3:
Tate landed a kick in the leg and Vieira responded with a jab and with his right hand. Time was called when she was stabbed in the eye, but Vieira managed to continue after a moment and she used her jab to keep Tate away. She followed a right hand with a combination, then scored with a right hook when Tate raised an eyebrow. Tate tried to bounce and Vieira landed a combination of the top hook. She followed her with another right hand and Tate finally clung on, but she was unable to lower Vieira. Tate clung once more and ended the round by landing on his knees to Vieira’s body. 10-9 Vieira.

Round 4:
Vieira landed some nice shots to start the fourth round and Tate hooked up with a hard right hook. She lowered Vieira and took her back as Vieira got back on her feet. Tate kept Vieira close to the cage and landed punches and short knees until Vieira was released. Power blows were replaced and Vieira landed on her knees to Tate’s body after Tate closed the distance. Vieira slammed and fought Tate’s other clinch with the far right, but Tate scored with his knees to Vieira’s middle part during the final seconds. 10-9 Tight.

Round 5:
Tate tried to close the distance in the final lap and Vieira landed bump after bump, followed by a combination of operatic-hook. Tate tried to notice another clinch and ate a knee and right hand. She began to bleed from a pastry and Vieira punished her with a knee to the body and a hard right hook. Tate finally landed her own beautiful right hand, but she was immediately hit by a right cross and another shot by Vieira. Tate’s face was covered in blood as the battle entered its last minute. Vieira turned and Tate landed a body kick. Vieira kept moving and she landed at the top of one cut before the last bell. 10-9 Vieira.

winner: Killer Vieira decided unanimously (49-46, 48-47, 48-47) after five rounds. It improves to 12-2-0.

Sean Brady vs. “Maverick” Michael Cheese

Round 1:
Time is called for at the beginning of the fight when Brady is stabbed in the eye. The battle continued after a short delay and Chase landed in one-two. Brady pushed forward and hit Chiza’s hand as Chiza threw his own fist, which opened Chiza’s hand and made him stab Brady in his other eye. An incision also opens in Brady’s left cheek. After a longer timeout, the operation resumed and Chisa was warned. Brady lowered Chiza twice and he landed his left hands on Chiza’s face from the back control. Chase got back on his feet and escaped the clinch. He landed a left-footed ball and Brady answered with a foot kick. 10-9 Brady.

Round 2:
Cheese slammed to start the second round and he landed a leading hook to Brady’s temple. The two men landed alternately and Chiza scored with a combination of a jab. He followed him with another one and Brady began to bleed harder from his nose. He grabbed and lowered the cheese to control from behind, then sank into both hooks and tried to set a naked choke behind. He held the cheese trapped in a body triangle and tried another naked choke in the back in front of the bell. 10-9 Brady.

Round 3:
Cheese landed a flying knee to Brady’s chest early in the third round and he hit Brady with upper hook combinations after escaping from a clinch. Brady tied him up and took his back, then dragged Chiza to the ground. Cheese tried to get out of the cage to escape, but Brady stayed on his back. Brady searched for a naked choke in the back until the last 45 seconds when Chiza escaped on his feet. Cheese landed on his knee and he dropped Brady to the ground. Brady was covered and reached for the bell as Cheese dropped punches to the side of his head. 10-9 Cheese.

winner: Sean Brady in unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. It gets better to 15-0-0.

Taila Santos vs. Joan “JoJo” Wood

Round 1:
Santos opened with one or two Woods threw front kicks from distance. Wood landed combinations from left to right until Santos scored with a hard right hook and finished. Wood pushed her and landed foot kicks and a right hook. Santos landed a right-footed shot and a foot kick, then lowered Wood with a large right-hand hook to the temple. Wood recovered quickly and got to her feet, but Santos paved her again with another right hand and then took Wood’s back. Wood fought two naked strikers in the back, but Santos adjusted her grip and promised a third one that forced Wood to surrender.

winner: Taila Santos by serving (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:49 of the first round. It improves to 19-1-0.

Rani Yahya v. Kyung Ho “Mr. Perfect” Kang

Round 1:
Kang landed two early right hands and he responded the shot of sight with a flying knee. Yahya grabbed him and lowered Kang into the cage. Kang got back on his feet and Yahya dragged him back down from the back control. He tried an inverted heel, but Kang quickly pulled his leg up and got up. On his feet, Kang landed stiff stabs and right on the hand. He landed two more Jab-Cross combinations and the other knocked down Yahya. Kang allowed him to stand and he landed a leading and uppercut left hook. Yahya fired in for the download and reached the bottom. 10-9 Cong.

Round 2:
Yahya responded with a kick to Kang’s leg by lowering it at the start of the second round. He took Kang’s back and secured a crank, but Kang managed to break his grip. Yahya remained on his back and kept a body triangle while punching on the side of Kang’s head. It went all the way to the bell. 10-9 Yahya.

Round 3:
Kang shook Yahya with punches in the last round and Yahya fell to his knees, but he recovered enough to pull Kang to the ground as well and threatened with a guillotine choke from below. Yahya used the choke to set up a sweep and he hit Kang’s butterfly guard from above. Yahya went under half-guard and threw a hammer fist at Kang’s face. Kang regained full guard and the two men hit the ground non-stop for the last 45 seconds. 10-9 Yahya due to control.

winner: Rani Yahya in a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. It improves to 28-10-1, 1 NC.

Adrian Yanz against “Dangerous” Davey Grant

Round 1:
Grant opened quickly with a variety of kicks and he mostly aimed Janz’s leading leg. Yanz landed a right hand and Grant answered with a tornado spinning in the back fist. Yanz connected to two more right hands and he began to be more successful with his punch as Grant focused mostly on his kicks. The two fighters landed kicks to the body and Grant lowered Yanz on his knee with a hard kick inside. Yanz stood and Grant missed a kick from a spinning wheel. Yanz backed him up with a left hook and followed him with a right. Grant recovered quickly and the Warriors replaced correct hooks. Grant started bleeding from a cut in the bridge of his nose, but he kept throwing kicks in the final seconds. Closed opening round. 10-9 Janz by a narrow margin.

Round 2:
The second round opened with more Grant kicks, but Yanz scored with a right hook over the top. Grant landed his own right hand and Viance answered with a foot kick. He forced Grant to turn away by landing two right-handed hooks and the time was called when Janz was stabbed in the eye. He managed to continue after a minute and Grant fired in for the download. Janz defended well and he landed another hard kick in the leg after parting from the clinch. Grant missed with another tornado spinning a back fist and Vince cracked it with his right hand. Blood continued to flow from the incision over the bridge of Grant’s nose, but he landed a kick with his foot and a leading right hook, then continued with two huge loop rights to Yanz’s jaw. Yanz barely flinched, but Grant landed another right hand at the end of the round. 10-9 Grant due to the strong finish.

Round 3:
After an exchange of foot kicks in the final round, Grant jumped in with a flying switch knee and followed it with two wild hooks. Yanz hit and landed one or two. Grant finished a combination with a partially landed header. Yanz scored with a combination of three punches and he mixed his punches with a punch and kicks to the foot. A combination of landed Lianz and Grant just missed with a jump knee. Yanz kept punching and he stayed out of Grant’s punching range. It lasted until the final seconds when Grant rushed forward and landed a right hook. A very close battle. 10-9 Jan.

winner: Adrian Yanz in a split decision (29-28, 29-28, 27-30) after three rounds. It gets better to 15-3-0.
